ABSTRACT

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Vitamin C supplementation and walking exercise on depression and empowerment among middle-aged women. Methods : The study design was single group pre-post experimental design. Participants were 30 middle-aged women aged 40-57 years. Participants took vitamin C supplement and performed walking exercise for 4-8 weeks. Data were collected by the two kinds of self-reported questionnaire (Beck Depression Inventory, Intrapersonal Empowerment Scale). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test and ANOVA. Result : After the vitamin C supplementation and walking exercise, participants showed significant decreases in depression(t=6.09, p<.001) and significant increases in empowerment (t=2.35, p=.027) Conclusion : Result shows that vitamin C supplementation and walking exercise are effective in decreasing depression and increasing empowerment of middle-aged women.
