ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the link among body mass index (BMI), metabolic syndrome and health habits of female military workers, such as smoking, drinking and exercising. Methods: The secondary data from the results National Health Insurance Service health examination of female military workers were analyzed using χ2-test, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: This study showed that the average BMI of the female military workers was 22.2±2.84kg/m2 and the rate of metabolic syndrome was 1.9%. the factors related to BMI were age, past history, family history, drinking and exercise, and the factors related to metabolic syndrome were age, past history, family history and exercise. Conclusion: To prevent obesity and metabolic syndrome, it is necessary to establish a tailored health promotion policy, taking into account of characteristics of female gender, with the goal of improving health habits of female military workers.
