ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the impact of academic stress and personality traits on the academic achievement of nursing students and use the results as foundational data for the development of teaching methods and intervention programs. Methods: Data were collected from 214 nursing students using a structured online questionnaire that included academic stress, personality traits, and academic achievement from October 1st to 7th in 2023. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: The most prevalent personality traits the nursing students was agreeableness (mean = 3.71). Academic achievement showed a significant correlation with academic stress (r=-.38, p<.001), and conscientiousness (r=.25, p<.001). Factors influencing on academic achievement were academic stress (β=-.50, p<.001), neuroticism (β=.25, p=.001), conscientiousness (β=.20, p=.003), accounting for 32.6% of variance. Conclusion: It is imperative that research on the development of education programs in various fields and their effectiveness is conducted for nursing students to enhance their academic achievement through emotional control under stressful environment.
