ABSTRACT

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of admission factors on academic achievements of Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy (KAFNA) graduates. Methods: The study employed a descriptive correlational design. Data were collected from literature on admission factors and academic achievements of 234 graduates between 2021 and 2023. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, and multiple regression using SPSS. Results: Related general characteristics of the overall grade point average (GPA) were found to be gender, year of graduation, college entrance exam counts, and admission type. The participants of early admission scored higher than the participants of regular admission in overall GPA. The overall GPA showed statistically positive correlations among grades of academic subjects, discipline program, military training, intensive English course, secondary admission exam, physical exam, interview, academic grades in high school, and non-academic grades in high school. Factors affecting GPA were gender, year of graduation, and admission type. The explanatory power was 15.9%(F=3.65, p<.001). Conclusion: According to the results, it would be suggested to increase the rate of early admission to attract more proper and talented cadet applicants to fulfill the educational goal of the KAFNA.
