ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aimed to develop a joint online patient safety course for undergraduate nursing programs in Korea and Thailand using the Rapid Prototyping Model (RPM). Methods: A literature review of 12 patient safety-related studies published in the past 10 years was conducted to inform the course design. Educational needs were identified through focus group interview (FGI) with 10 participants from Korea and Thailand. Based on the literature review and FGI results, a prototype for the joint patient safety course was developed. The course content validity was assessed by eight experts using the Content Validity Index (CVI). A pilot test was conducted with 20 nursing cadets from both countries, involving a 120-minute online lecture and scenario-based discussions. Results: The course prototype addressed educational needs by focusing on five key topics: infection control, patient identification, medication management, fall prevention, and communication. The syllabus was developed, including course title, objectives, 15-week educational content, teaching methods, and evaluation methods. Expert review showed that the course was appropriately designed, with all items scoring above a CVI of .80. The pilot test demonstrated a high satisfaction rate, with an average score of 4.42 (±0.62), supporting the finalization of the course syllabus. Conclusion: This study successfully developed a joint online patient safety course for nursing cadets in Korea and Thailand, reflecting participants' needs. The course also facilitated international collaboration, enhancing educational innovation in non-face-to-face learning.
