ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to examine the process of canonizing drama critics' opinions, who appeared in large numbers early in 1970s. They acted in two fields; one of which was drama journals where they introduced the western drama theories and the other was newspapers and magazines where they criticized the performance of dramas at those times. By analysing their opinions, I found that they were interested in experimental dramas that did not focused on dialogues and that they were conservative and scholastic in that they paid little attention to social issues such as censorships. Because most of them were professors and worked in group as a critic, their influence on Korean drama circles is still enormous. My question is whether their judgments should be considered as canons at present. This is not easy to decide because the period of about 40 years from 1970 to now is too short for their opinions to become "canons". On the other hand, they have contributed to developing drama theories as a professor and the study on this respect is also an important topic but is left for the next time.
