ABSTRACT

This thesis is a try to build an evaluation of a writer Lee Gyeong Hee, who became famous by several popular mini-series broadcasted on TV. Her works show the pattern of romantic love, which are proceeded by heroes who have experienced loss of loved ones or being abandoned. The deficient problems in heroes are not a barrier, but become signs to each other and contribute to enforce the unavoidable love. In contrast with normal melodramas, her works usually ended with tragedy, which gives emphasis to romantic love. Her works are full of many moral teachings, such as love your family, forgive those who hurt you, and believe that man is good. The success factor of her works is the skillful combination of "fun" and "moral lessons", that is, making dramas interesting by covering with romantic love events the moral teachings which one may feel boring. Even though the writer deals with social issues like AIDS patients and adoptions to foreign countries and tries to show the bright side of them, she seems a pessimist because she hints that it is impossible to make a world where what she thinks important are realized by calling her dramas "fairy tales".
