ABSTRACT

This paper begins from recognizing the problem that qualities of star is improved, recreated and upon situations, entirely created the during media's process of mobilizing 'stars'. In other words, stars that are realized through media can be regarded as those who carry 'ideology' and 'power'. In order to specify such pattern we focus on the media Samcheonri and actress 'Moon Yebong'. Samcheonri is a popular general magazine that represents the 1930s Chosun. This magazine contributed to expanding popular culture and political attributes through many famous people from various industries. Amidst such situation the most representative actress who was mobilized as a star of the movie world was none other than 'Moon Yebong'. Samcheonri extensively undertakes discovering hidden talents as well as the leaders of each industry upon its creation. Moon Yebong was doubted of her qualities as an actress when she debuted but people of her times finds possibilities of Chosun films' international endeavors through Moon Yebong. One of the causes was international master Sternberg's visit to Chosun and through such opportunity Samcheonri began to focus on Moon Yebong. Since the Samcheonri repeatedly reminded its readers of Moon Yebong as 'Chosun's Dietrich' or 'Chosun's Irie takako'. In addition, Samcheonri named Moon Yebong as one of the renowned actress of Chosun, mobilizing her as a core disputant in film symposiums․talks․surveys, etc. However, the fact that such adjectives realized through Samcheonri are still being traced on Moon Yebong and are recreated without the contemplation of the context of its creation needs to be reconsidered.
