ABSTRACT

This paper is a comparative study of Korean and Japanese television drama text in order to identify the 'snob' and 'surplus'. This study tried to explain the fact that change common sense of 'snob' and 'surplus' through contact or connection to the technology. In short, this study is reconstitution the scape surrounding 'snob' and 'surplus' and attempt to place the factors of technology on the vanishing point of the scape. Genealogy of Korean and Japanese television drama leads to <Reply 1994> from <The Moon of Seoul>, and to <Hanzawa Naoki> from <White Tower> are significant cases that come to discover common sense of 'snob' and 'surplus' configured through variety architecture and a variety of technologies. These texts disclose cultural signs about transition from industrial capitalism to information capitalism, reorganization from atom to bit. Various technologies such as transportation and construction, precision machinery and telecommunications appeared in Korean and Japanese television drama as anthropological report are indispensable material foundations of 'snob' and 'surplus'.
