ABSTRACT

Oh Hakyeong’s three dramas(Dalgui uimi trilogy), Dalgui uimi, Kkotgwa sipjagar and Saengmyeongeun hapchangcheoreom, received attention because these was not written as the established style, the realism drama. Nevertheless, these dramas do not focus on the human’s mind but display the inner problem from social value’s change. Sanghwa, a main character of Dalgui uimi trilogy, refuses to accept the established order and values which ordinary men follow. He wants to live as an artist, so he can not follow the established order. He understands his father, Lee Myeonggyu who has money problem and girlfriend, A-Ran who wishes get married. However, In Dalgui uimi trilogy, he can not accept the value of family system, marriage institution and legal system, since he was otherized by other people. Finally, he can be resistant being as death penalty. The conflicts of Sanghwa are inner conflicts which are from society and personal relations, so Oh Hakyeong expressed inner conflicts as unordinary dialogues and unrealistic stages. Therefore, these dramas have many elements of unrealistic styles, Expressionism, Symbolism, Surrealism and so on. By formal experiment of these styles, Oh Hakyeong treated men’s inner conflicts as symptoms of society problems and related problems. Naturally, His dramas are transitional, but these are able to link with former dramas and later dramas from a historical perspective. In this respect, formal experiments of Oh Hakyeong would be re-evaluated as autonomous experiments.
