ABSTRACT

We know that most of the works in the literary collections are classics. However, the fact that such works called classics are the “canon” which went through the process of selection and exclusion, is now widely accepted. In the literary collections from the 1950s to the 1970s, Korea's modern dramas were on the way to the canonization. In the absence of studies on Korea drama history, the literary collections were one of ways that a Korean modern drama could be escalated to the level of canon. By the way, because the Korea theatrical world was divided after 1945 Liberation of Korea, the subjects of collection were forced to be centered on works representing “right wing” thoughts. In particular, Yoo Chijin, who was both an editorial committee member and a work writer selection committee member of the “Korean Literature Collection” of Minjungseokwan, and “The New Korean Literature Collection” of Irmungak, had an important influence and he could claim his opinion about Korea drama history with ‘Gukyesulyeongoohoy’ and ‘Singuk’ as major themes. In addition, the selection criterion of these collections emphasized literary character and it came to contribute to create the history studies which are centered on dramas and theatrical plays with the same characteristics afterwards.
