ABSTRACT

Television drama <W> reflects the experiences in the era when narrative movement has become impossible and simultaneously reacts sensitively to the changes in the world based on digital. It's because it depicts characters who struggle in order to find “contextual” life with one's own “free will”, yet boldly destroys the boundary between imagination and reality by going across the world of webtoon and the world of reality. However, the heavy subjects of the relationship between a creator and a creature and humans' free will and destiny become replaced with the joy from lively imagination and sensational images that go beyond the border of images and actual ones. In addition, it has been converged into typical cliches of a romantic drama, and shows the limit of stimulating only sensational pleasure. Nevertheless, drama <W> is meaningful in that it begins from religious and philosophical questions, expands the range of expressions of television dramas, and pioneers the areas of new imagination.
