AB - Dramatist Kim WooJin's translated critique entitled "The History of Irish Poetry", written by Padraic Colum was carried in Masago(1924),a Japanese literary journal. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the significance and background of translation in the context of acceptance of the Irish Literature by specifying of the source as the original “The history of Ireland Poetry " in Japan. This article examines also how media influenced on KimWooJin's literature and life, while reviewing the features of the translation published in Journal Masago. In arguing these topics, this research makes the following accomplishments. First, KimWooJin's "The History of Irish Poetry" clarifies the process of extracting translation of the introduction of Padraic Colum's Anthology of Irish verse(1922). Through these inquires, this paper investigates the details of Kim WooJin's discovery of Ireland that prompted the translation of theory Irish poetry as well as drama and poetry. Futhermore, this research reveals the background of Kim WooJin's discovery of Ireland that the Masago contributors who majored in English literature at Waseda University led the acceptance of Irish literature in Japan. It is explained in terms of academic traditions and networks by reviewing the peculiarity of Masago which was published in the Taisho era. Therefore, this report considers the possibility of approaching as utterance turned Japanese readers to Kim WooJin's Japanese works in addition to studying the new literary journals, Masago, which has received little attention so far. The works of poetry theory, which discussed the history the Irish Literary Renaissance which was significant in the representation of Irish poets, were translated to begin to form a national literature of colonial Chosen and Japan. Thus, this study explores the meaning of mediacy of Japanese translations in the acceptance of Western literature.
