ABSTRACT

This study tried to look at the way of appropriating extramarital affairs which based on the genre of mini-series- romance and melodramas <Aein>, <Geojeenmal>, <Nae Namjaeui Yeoja>, <Milhoe>, that has been actively summoned and captured in a new way since the mid-1990s. In addition, I would like to consider the discourse created by the drama through the affair. The aim was to get rid of unconditional (negative) prejudice against an affair drama and to reconsider the value of the drama itself. The key point is, in order to look at the way of appropriating extramarital affairs, to look at the device of dramatic tolerance that was able to escape from criticism and attack by freeing itself from the morality and ethics of the drama while dealing with the problematic subject matter of affair. According to the analysis, the four dramas were romance-melodramas that focused on the subject of the affair and approached it with love. Accordingly, the affair is described as a romantic life than a realistic one. Although the romance-melodrama didn’t reflect reality, these dramas gained emotional sympathy from viewers. The emotional empathy was granted through the motivation and story, character setting by breaking the boundary of good and evil, and natural narrative development by delicate inner portrayals. In addition, it suggests a matter of reason instead of using the affair as a stimulating materials, so it contributed to the expansion of the genre of romance-melodramas in the form of miniseries.
