ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine the representation of female judges in Korean society in the 1950s and 1960s, focusing on Hong Eun-won's film "A Woman Judge"(Yeopansa). The study analyses how Hong Eun-won, as a director, attempts to differentiate herself through the way she speaks and the visual representation of the courtroom in The Woman Judge by comparing it to courtroom scenes in contemporary male-directed films. This representation in the film suggests the possibilities of women within the limitations of the time and raises social awareness. In doing so, this study reconsiders female narratives in Korean film history and Hong Eun-won's auteuristic contributions.
