AB - 이윤종의 『에로방화의 은밀한 매력』은 1980년대 한국영화의 주류 장르였던 에로방화가 정치적·문화적으로 진보적인 영화들이었음에 주목하며, 바로 그 진보성으로 인해 퇴행성이 나타나기도 했음을 '진보적 양면성'이라는 키워드로 조명하고 있다. 저자는 에로방화가 군사정권의 문화정책으로 인해 만들어진 것이라는 오랜 통념을 문제 삼으며 1980년대 영화사를 페미니스트 관점에서 다시 쓰고 있다. 예술과 통속, 경제적 발전과 정치적 진보, 지식인과 민중이라는 이분법을 기반으로 하는 이 통념에 대한 문제제기는 단지 에로방화에 대한 적극적인 재평가에서 멈추지 않고, 당시의 권위적인 국가와 민중이 모두 '진보'와 '발전'이라는 목적론적 철학을 시대정신으로서 공유하고 있었으며 그로 인해 여성에 대한 착취적인 재현이 등장한 것이라는 통찰로까지 나아간다. 총 3부로 이루어진 『에로방화의 은밀한 매력』의 1부는 에로방화가 세계영화사의 지도 속에서 버나큘러 멜로드라마로 자리하고 있음을 살핀 후, 이를 바탕으로 하여 불륜 소재의 에로스릴러와 호스트‧호스티스 멜로드라마에 나타난 대항발전주의를 분석한다. 2부는 민족주의 에로방화 및 에로사극에 나타난 민중민족주의의 진보적 양면성을 파고들며, 3부는 에로방화에 나타난 죽음충동의 급진성을 분석한 후 당시 한국 사회의 자본주의화 양상에 대한 영화적 진단을 검토한다. 저자의 '대항발전주의 3부작'의 첫 번째 결과물로 기획된 『에로방화의 은밀한 매력』은 "진보와 퇴보의 변증법"이 1980년대의 한국영화와 당대의 발전주의‧진보주의를 관통하고 있음을 밝혀냄으로써 한국영화사 연구의 젠더정치적 갱신을 꾀하는 작업으로서 의의를 지닌다.
