AB - “Myobup-Yunwha-Kyong” is Korean Sakyong, which is a distinctive feature of it. The book had been kept in custody along with other relics before it was found in a Buddhist temple of the Chogye Order---it’s orally handed down that Saint Wonhyo led a peaceful life and practiced asceticism in the temple during the Sunduk era of Shilla. Although there have been many versions of “Myobup-Yunwha-Kyong” or “the Sutra of the Lotus”, most of them are the ones printed from wood blocks and only a few of them are Sakyong. Moreover, Korean Sakyong versions are very few and far between. That's why it has drawn a lot of attention. It's been recorded that this trans-literated “Myobup-Yunwha-Kyong” consisting of two volumes of a book “Baekji-Meuk-Sakyong” had been transcribed during the 4th year of Injo, Chosun Dynasty. The origin, the bibliographical and Korean language features along with the background of the times when it was transcribed were observed to analyze the book. Especially, by comparing the trans-literated contents of the Sakyung with other Korean annotations of Chinese classics around the early 17th century when the book was transcribed and by analyzing the features of Korean language, it was confirmed that the Sakyong had been finished in the early 17th century as recorded in the “Myobup-Yunhwa-Kyong” Sasung-ki. This would greatly contri- bute to the research on the Korean language including the one on Hangul phonetic representation used in Chinese language.
