AB - Metal type like Kemi-ja(癸未字), Kyoengja-ja(庚子字), Gabin-ja(甲寅字) in Chosun developed on the basis of the art of metal type in Koryo Dynasty. Although the invention of metal type resulted from practical use, found that ancestor also considered beauty through inspecting existing metal type prints like 「Baekwoon Hwasang Chorok Jikji Shimche Yojol」(白雲和尙抄錄佛祖直指心體要節).
This paper is to survey Korean aesthetics showed in metal type casting and printing before 1592. so divided early Chosun into development times of metal type, improvement times, diffusion times and observed characteristics emphasized on beauty of individual metal type
