ABSTRACT

Cheong-Jang-Gwan-Jeon-Seo is the compilation of several works by Yi Deok- Moo(1741-1793), one of the intellectuals in the mid-eighteenth century. Cheong- Jang-Gwan-Jeon-Seo was first compiled by his son, Yi Gwang-Gyou. It was later corrected and completed by Yi Won-Soo whose fatehr Lee Han-Sool was assumed to be a friend of Yi Deok-Moo.Cheong-Jang-Gwan-Jeon-Seo consists of 71 volumes in 32 books. This book was first transcribed by about twenty people since spring in 1809 through next summer. They were relatives or acqaintances, including followers of Yi Won-Soo. The Asami Collection of C.V. Starr East Asian Library at UC Berkeley has the original manuscript of Cheong-Jang-Gwan-Jeon-Seo. corrected and first completed by Yi Won-soo. Cheong-Jang-Gwan-Jeon-Seo was so far reproduced three times in Korea, but none of the manuscripts was a complete version. Cheong-Jang-Gwan-Jeon-Seo held at Jongyoung-Gak library in Sungkyunkwan University includes Cheong-Ryoung-Guk-Ji completely transcribed from the original manuscript. Therefore, by using the copy held in UC Berkeley as the base, and then the copy held in Sungkyunkwan University as the complement to the missing parts, it is necessary to publish a complete edition of Cheong-Jang-Gwan-Jeon-Seo.
