ABSTRACT

In this study, a bibliographical analysis was conducted on the contents and structure of Dyeongni-uigwe(Jeongni-uigwe) transcribed in Han-geul and stored in the National Institute of Oriental Languages & Civilizations(INALCO) library in France. Out of 48 volumes of this book, twelve volumes(29-36, 40, and 46-48) have remained. At first, the physical features, the period of writing and the meaning of Jeongni-uigwe in Han-geul were bibliographically analyzed, based on its structure and contents. Such a bibliographic analysis of this book is very significant, because the historical aspect of translation into Han-geul, and how to transcribe in Han-geul the names of objects, geographical names, and various terms written in Classical Chinese could be investigated. Also, it means the discovery of Han-geul notes of Hwaseong-seongyeog-uigwe handed down only in Classical Chinese version. In this study, these twelve volumes of Dyeongni-uigwe were translated with notes, and their authority documents were simultaneously examined. Since some contents were also recorded in other historical documents, including Joseon-wangjo-sillok, Seungjeongwon- ilgi, Ilseong-nok and other Uigwe, such as Wonhaeng-jeongnye and Hwaseong-seongyeog- uigwe, they were investigated and compared with each other. It is expected that an analysis of its contents and structure could provide valuable basic data for such academic areas as archives, Classical Chinese literature, and history as well as Korean language. The contents of Jeongni-uigwe in Han-geul were documented in the order of time, unlike Wonhaeng-eulmyo-jeongni-uigwe or Hwaseong-seongyeog-uigwe issued in the same period. Jeongni-uigwe is divided into two sections: One section documents the celebration of Hyegyeong-gung Hong-ssi's birthday and ‘Won-haeng’, the royal trip in the years of Byeong-jin(1794) and Jeong-sa(1795). The other section records the construction of Hwaseong which started in 1794 and was completed in 1796. From this book, the progresses of these events can be checked on in the order of time, and how to write the names of objects in Han-geul can be verified.
