ABSTRACT

In this research, the writings and life of Yoon Gu(or Gyuljung as pen name, 1495-1549), a civil servant and scholar in the early Joseon Period, are examined. Other literature on his works are also searched and summarized. So far, three kinds of manuscripts and one printed edition with wooden movable types of Gyuljung- yugo are known, and Gyuljungsunsaeng-yugo, its Korean translation, has been recently published. Gyuljung-yugo includes 33 articles. His poetry which stress self-discipline, virtue, and fidelity by comparing life to nature and matters, have something in common with the spirit of Sohak, the main instruction of Haenam Yoon’s family. His essays which criticize the lack of coherence and arrogance of King Kojo in the Han Dynasty, reflect fidelity as his political creed and ideology. From searching literature, 9 pieces of Gyuljung’s writings, 11 records on his life, and 36 pieces of writings dedicated to Gyuljung, but not included in Gyuljung- yugo, were found.
