AB - I have investigated an aspect of the abridgement and other characteristics of the abridged Jubon Hwaeomgyeong vols.72-80 collected in Shōsōin(hereafter, JH; Jeongchangwon Hwaeomgyeong) of Japan. The remainging ratio of JH is 44.2% and that of TH(Tongdaesa Hwaeomgyeong) is 29.4%. And the former’s remaining ratio is, contrary to expectation, higher than that of the other. But this is a matter of course because the editors of JH have put the bigger emphasis on the story of Hwaeomgyeong than the Buddhist doctrines in it.
I think, on the other hand, why the editors of JH have written “what are ten(何等爲十)?” and they have arranged only one or two among them is they always have beared the original text in mind. JH has not been, therefore, a perfect Hwaeomgyeong text in itself but they have always premised an original one.
Above these, I have revealed mistakenly written letters and phrases, dropped parts, and overlapping written letters, etc. through the proof-reading process and have found out two Chinese Characters of Empress Wŭ, 𥠢 and , which we can not see them in other Korean Buddhist literatures. I have, at last, pointed out and corrected the faults among the footnotes in the Jubon Hwaeomgyeong vols. 72-80 of Taishō Tripiṭaka.
