A Bibliographical Research of Gyojang in Japan

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out as a part of Gyojang research fulfilled by The research institute of Tripitaka Koreana in 2015. So in this study we tried to bibliographically investigate all the Gyojang remained in Japan. The quantity, the status and the bibliographic features of them were gathered and organized. As a result we could find out 61 volume of Gyojang were remained, and the bibliographic features as follows ; 1. In terms of theme, Geungseo that is in the category of Buddhist Sutra remains 31 volumes, Nonseo was 16 volumes, Yeolseo 3 volumes and also the catalog of Gyojang which called Shinpyenjejonggyojangchongrok vol.2 and vol.3 was contained to the list. 2. In the times of engraving and printing periods, 1 volume was in 794-1185 so called Peungan period, 1 volume in 11th century, 2 volumes in 12th century, 13th-15th century was made 1 volume respectively, 2 volumes in 16th century, 28 volumes in 17th century, 9 volumes in 18th century. Also 1 volume is estimated about 19th century, 2 volumes is estimated about 20th century and 9 volumes is unknown the printing time. 1 volume was engraved in 15th century but printed in later and so forth. 3. In the methods of publishing, 46 volumes were engraved in woodblocks, 11 volumes were transcripted and wooden type was 4 volumes. In the woodblock books there was Sungyusikronyouideung which was regarded as ‘Kasganban’.
