ABSTRACT

1) The development of Korean bibliography has been led by physical bibliography. 2) Korean printing technology, especially typography, had marked unprecedented development in the world. 3) Korea is the only country that has Mugujonggwang dae daranigyong in woodblock edition and woodblock of Palman daejangkyung in the world. Korea invented metal type at least 200 years earlier than West and still retains the invented types. It had also printed the oldest existing metal type edition - Backwoon hwasang chorock pulcho chikchi simche yojol in 1377. Korea has developed more than seventy different kinds of types since then. In this regard, the status of Korean early printing culture is no less significant than that of any other countries in the world. 4) Ilsan had laid the foundations for Korean bibliography by pioneering into the fields of cultural history in woodblock printing, type printing, printing technology, and modern printing as well as building up Ilsan collection.
