ABSTRACT

This study has been conducted to present current research directions of Chinese academic circles regarding the 97 pieces of recently discovered Goryeo metal type, Jeungdoga type and rectify their misunderstood points. For nearly a decade long, a myriad researches and ideas about Goryeo metal types, including Jeungdoga type, had already been thoroughly discussed in Korea. Moreover, the additional five pieces of unearthed types from Manwolde, Gaeseong, North Korea raised urgent needs of further researches on the overall types, including scattered pieces throughout regions. In addition, since February of 2018, China has released authentication documents about 97 pieces in national scale, recognized by various fields of experts, such as metal, calligraphy, printing and publication and numismatology. Despite the types’ clear identical features to the ones discovered in North Korea, China is in process of changing the types’ origins to their own. Hence, this research reviewed many aspects and ideas of Chinese scholars in terms of authentication, numbers, shapes, features and grounds. Furthermore, this study compared and contrast the types with Korean types which had already been comprehensively studied, to prove their true Korean origins.
