ABSTRACT

This article is based on a bibliographic analysis of Korean books of the Shanghai Library in China. According to the results of the survey in 2014, a list of ancient books was prepared by the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation and was prepared as a report in 2015. This article was also compiled based on a survey conducted in 2014, focusing on identifying the overall status of Korean ancient books by the director of the Shanghai Library and checking the characteristic features of the books. According to a survey on bibliographic aspects such as the current status of Korean ancient books and the characteristics of each subject, 1,260 books of 187 types of ancient books accounted for 72 of the masters of Gyeong, Sa, Ja, and Jipu, accounting for more than one-third of the total, with 35 types of separate books being the largest number by type. By edition, woodblock prints were the most common with 79 types, followed by 63 types of metal type, 11 types of manuscript, 29 types of wood type, four types of photoprint and one type of stone type. Five early Joseon printed copies were identified, including the completion of the Gyeongjaja bon, which was published during the reign of King Sejong. You can also check the history of Korean ancient books in the Shanghai Library through the records of the books and ownership stamp.
