ABSTRACT

After the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the significance of the information and communication industry has expanded, and the agglomeration and dispersion of jobs within the industry are expected to show a new trend. In terms of industrial location, several previous studies on the location of the industry identify the trend in which jobs have been integrated and grouped into the places previously known for the information and communication industry. However, the recent development of cities and industries requires a job-oriented approach instead of an industry- oriented one. Thus, this paper notes the new trend of agglomeration and dispersion within urban job settings in the new industrial paradigm following the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It also identifies the factors and traits of cities that affect jobs within the information and communication industry. First, the overall imbalance of job openings within the information and communication industry in Seoul was identified, and a new trend of crowding around the areas of Mapo-gu, Jung-gu, Seongdong-gu, and Jongno-gu was shown. Second, the model’s rate of completion was improved by verifying the suitability through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Third, it has been found that culture, food, and entertainment, which are related to tertiary locations, are influential factors for jobs in the information and communication industry. This paper identified changes after the Fourth Industrial Revolution in areas where the ratio of jobs in the information and communication industry is high, and it defined a new trend. In addition, the significance of this paper provides not only as influential in these jobs but also as what could be used to evaluate the level of a city is expected to help better policymaking.
