ABSTRACT

Forensic watermarking is used in OTT services to identify the source of illegally distributed content. Conventional A/B watermarking supports CDN cache reuse but requires two variant segments for each content resolution and segment, increasing storage and management overhead. This paper proposes a request-based forensic watermarking architecture that stores a single common segment and Watermark Embedding Metadata (WEM) and embeds a Watermark Identifier (WMID) at the CDN edge upon user request. Experiments with 10 videos encoded at four resolutions showed that storage was reduced from 7.48 GB to 3.74 GB, corresponding to a 49.98% reduction. Under warm-cache conditions, the proposed method also maintained a 100% cache hit ratio for 10, 50, and 100 concurrent users. These results indicate that the proposed architecture reduces storage overhead while preserving the cache reusability of conventional A/B watermarking.
