ABSTRACT

Cataloging systems have been fundamentally restructured since the development of the FRBR conceptual model. In Korea, the international trends led to the publication of the Korean Cataloging Rules, 5th edition (KCR5) in June 2025. This study aims to examine changes in manifestation-level cataloging rules of KCR5 and to explore methods for applying these data to the KORMARC format for bibliographic records. To this end, this study analyzes the manifestation-level rules of KCR5 and reviews cases from overseas libraries that have implemented RDA manifestation elements in MARC21. Based on this analysis, a draft proposal was developed and refined through expert validation and practitioner review. The final recommendations are proposed with examples, organized into four categories reflecting the most significant changes: title-related information, types of manifestation, physical characteristics of manifestations, and bibliographic relationships. This study is timely in addressing practical implementation issues during the transition to a new cataloging framework.
