ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to explore the library use experiences of individuals with developmental disabilities through a qualitative approach and to propose inclusive, user-centered library service strategies. To achieve this aim, six participants were interviewed regarding their overall perceptions of libraries, the initiation and context of library use, spatial experiences, information utilization, interactions with others, emotions and meanings, connections to daily life, and comprehensive significance. The collected narratives were comprehensively analyzed through iterative comparison and interpretation. As a result, a total of 90 concepts, 58 categories, and 34 themes were identified. Based on these findings, practical strategies are suggested to enhance accessibility and convenience for individuals with developmental disabilities, provide tailored programs and participation support, promote social interaction through small group activities, strengthen learning and personal development opportunities, and create library environments that function as emotional and social safety nets.
