ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aimed to analyze the effects of knowledge, perception, and attitude toward artificial intelligence (AI) on the intention to use AI among physical therapy students, providing foundational data for the development of an educational foundation for future clinical AI applications. METHODS: This descriptive survey study was conducted with 155 students enrolled in the physical therapy departments of four universities located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. RESULTS: Perception (β = .278, p = .025) and attitude (β = .613, p < .001) toward AI significantly predicted have a significant effect on the intention to use AI, while knowledge (β = .041, p = .400) did not show a statistically significant effect. The variance explained of the regression model was 46.7%. These findings suggest that the higher the positive perception and attitude toward AI, the stronger the intention to utilize AI technology in the future. CONCLUSION: It is necessary to implement systematic educational programs within the physical therapy curriculum to foster positive perceptions and attitudes toward AI. Additionally, given the current limited application of AI in clinical practice, further research and educational efforts are required to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical use.
