ABSTRACT

This study attempted to empirically analyze the relationship between corporate regulatory satisfaction and regulatory compliance perception on government regulations, considering the influence of perception on the amount of government regulations. To this end, a survey was conducted on 718 businesses nationwide from July to October 2021. As a result of the analysis, the effect of a company's regulatory satisfaction on regulatory compliance perception was limited in the analysis of others' regulatory compliance perception, but not significant in the analysis of their own regulatory compliance perception. In this study, this was interpreted as an implicit influence relationship, which the satisfaction with regulations turn out to be an important variable in the perception of regulatory compliance of others, but it is not explicitly found in the perception of regulatory compliance of themselves. It can be explained that their own regulatory compliance is perceived as having a low exchange relationship with regulators, contrary to other people's regulatory compliance. In particular, considering the cases in which regulatory satisfaction is low, but excessive emphasis is given to one's own regulatory compliance, it is possible to expect a principled but quite passive behavior of regulatory compliance. Of course, it cannot be said that an exchange relationship model that implies the level of regulatory compliance determined by the degree of individual regulatory satisfaction is desirable. Moreover, there is no need to negatively interpret the analysis results of this study. However, the increasing rate of responding to high regulatory compliance levels despite high regulatory burden and low satisfaction raises concerns about the possibility of failing substantial and active regulatory compliance. It can be suggested to seek long-term and fundamental improvement measures to improve the quality of regulatory compliance.
