AB - Korea and Canada have negotiated over FTA formation during the past several years, waiting for the finalization. From the Korean perspective, there would be some benefits if FTA between Korea and Canada is formed. Based upon the economic and political theories on the regional economic cooperation, Industrial complementarity, Canadian experience of FTA with the United States, higher economic development level, and increasing trade volume between the two countries are expected to bring economic and political gains to Korea. However, some sensitive sectors and negotiation over automobile trade will be barriers to finalize the negotiation process. To expedite the negotiation process, some strategies can be taken. Internal consensus-building and exclusion of some sensitive sectors will be good policy instruments to overcome existing barriers.
