ABSTRACT

In Korea, COVID-19 patients with no symptoms, or only mild symptoms, are admitted to residential treatment centers rather that hospitals in order to ensure an adequate supply of hospital beds for patients in need of advanced medical treatment. However, COVID-19 residential treatment centers can raise ethical concerns regarding patient autonomy. In this article, I share my experiences as a nurse working at a residential treatment center in 2020 and discuss some of the ethical issues regarding patient autonomy that can arise within these facilities.
