AB - Both prostitution and pornography are major objects of controversy among all other sex related issues. In Korea, prostitution is controled under the special law against prostitution and production of pornography is also forbidden by law, whereas the exposure to pornography has been almost institutionalized. For this reason, although people consider prostitution as a serious crime, they hardly feel guilty about seeing pornography. However, when we review the opposite arguments on both sides, we can question whether pornography can be concerned less than prostitution. Prostitution actually does cause harm to others directly while pornography doesn't, and there exists more issues we can consider prostitution as a more serious crime but when we compare and review all objections to the criticism made against i) a person who provides a sexual service; ii) a person who accepts a sexual service; and iii) ordinary women respectively, we can recognize that pornography can even cause more harm than prostitution. The purpose of this essay is to reconsider our attitudes of taking pornography too lightly due to its easy accessibility.
