He thought that culture was based on human reason. For him, culture can be said to be based on human conscience. Du Yaquan did not oppose the acceptance of Western culture. However, he thought that Western culture could not solve problems of China at that time. Du Yaquan emphasized Chinese traditional culture and unique civilization. He thought that the difference between Chinese and Western cultures stemmed from their different qualities. And he tried to solve the problems of Western culture through Chinese traditional culture. Du Yaquan thought that the Chinese traditional culture had the merits of ‘integration’.(統整) He argued that Western cultures should be fused around Chinese traditional culture with this advantage. Du Yaquan emphasized that through this advantage, a new culture should be built to contribute to the future of mankind.
