ABSTRACT

In this paper, I investigated Korean researching trends on Xunzi in Japanese colonial era, especially focused on journal articles published in 1906 to 1910. The Japanese colonial era is one of most dynamic and important changing years for Korean philosophy but there are only less researches about that period and not even one research about Xunzi. This paper has started with this lack of knowing. I grouped that articles to three: (1) 9 articles in 1906~1910, (2) 10 articles in 1920’s, and (3) 4 articles after 1930. The 9 articles published in the first period could be classified by its themes as Human Nature, Society and Politics. All articles on Human Nature focused on the idea called ‘Seongakseol(性惡說)’ and almost all articles on Society and Politics pointed ‘Jongunseol(尊君說)’ as the core of Xunzi and blame him with that.
