What is the Meaning of Qi in Sasang Constitutional Medicine? Kang Tae-Gon, Park Seong-Sik Dept. of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, College of Oriental Medicine, Dongguk Univ. 1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to find the kinds & meaninings of Qi in Lee Je-Ma's writings. 2. Methods We analyzed Lee Je-Ma's writings which contain the related contents of Qi's kinds & meanings 3. Results and Conclusions 1) There are distinctive Qi features of sorrow․anger․joy․pleasure(哀怒僖樂) which are different from one of seven mode emotions(七情) inGyukchigo(格致藁). 2) When Water․grain's Qi(臟氣) is the base of the human's Qi, Nature․emotion's Qi(性․情氣) is managing. And Lung․Spleen․Liver․Kidneys's Qi(肺脾肝腎氣) is the representative concept resulted by the complex operation of Water․grain's Qi(水穀之氣) and Nature․emotion's Qi. Each Qi stands for its protensity as follows ; Lung's Qi for extrorse propensity of Yang(Z), Spleen's Qi for upward propensity of Yang(陽), Liver's Qi for introrse propensity of Eum(陰), Kidneys's Qi for downward propensity of Eum(陰). 3) Jang's Qi is more important than medicine's Qi and medicine's Qi has a limitation about recovering jang's Qi. So that it is very important to take care of one's mind. 4) Controling mind Qi is controling Nature & emotion's Qi. Thus controling mind Qi is the best plan for jang's Qi and controling with medicine's Qi is the next policy. 5) Qi influences all aspect of personality, disease, application of medicines and ordinary symptoms. So that Qi is the kernel of the Sasang Constitutional Medicine.

Objectives This study is written to investigate the biblographical facts on the book Dongyi Suse Bowon(東醫壽世保元) quoted from Dongeuibogam(東醫寶鑑). 2. Methods It was researched on the comparative and literal study about the relation to Dongyi Suse Bowon, Dongeuibogamand several books quoted fromDongeuibogam. 3. Results and Conclusions In this study, We found outDongyi Suse Bowonhas several wrong quoted expressions. 1) There are 22 wrong expressions of quoted book 2) There are 6 wrong expressions of writer 3) There are 6 wrong expressions of contents

The Study on the Formative Process of Soyangin Pharmacology-Focused on Gabobon and Sinchukbon- Han Kyung-Suk, Park Seong-Sik Dept. of Sasang Consitutional Medicine, College of Oriental Medicene, Dongguk Univ. 1. Objects This paper was written in order to understand the formative process of Soyangin pharmacology. 2. Methods We analysis Soyangin pharmacology through pathology and new prescription in Gabobon(甲午本) and Sinchukbon(辛丑本) of Dongyi Suse Bowon. 3. Results and Conclusions New prescription of Soyangin in Gabobon is same or similar to that in Chobonkwon. So we can recognize that almost Soyangin pharmacology of Gabobon is made when Dongmu write Chobonkwon. And the maintenance of Yin-Qi is key point of Soyangin’s pharmacology. New prescription of Soyangin is made by regular rules in Sinchukbon. Dongmu say that Hyungkae(荊芥) Bangpung(防風) Kanghwal(羌活) Dokhwal(獨活) is herbs for descending-Yin, and Sukjihwang(熟地黃) Sansuyoo(山茱萸) Bokryung(茯苓) Taeksa(澤瀉) or Saengjihwang(生地黃) Sukgo(石膏) Jimo(知母) is herbs for ascending-Yang. And all new prescription except Sukjihwangkosam-tang(熟地黃苦蔘湯) is composed of asneding-Yang and descending-Yin’s herbs. New prescription of the exterior disease contained all descending-Yin’s herbs and that of the interior disease contained all ascending-Yang’s herbs completly. Namely when Gabobon was written Soyangin pharmacology is the maintenance of Yin-Qi by selecting prescription of cold character. And when Sinchukbon was written, base sprit of Soyangin pharmacology was not changed. Pharmacology was added ascending-Yang and descending-Yin at a time.
