ABSTRACT

Shin Jihye’s Film Music represents one of the most influential radio programs dedicated to film music in Korea, playing a pivotal role in shaping listeners’ cultural and emotional engagement with cinema. Produced and hosted by announcer Shin Jihye, the program transcended the conventional format of soundtrack presentation by integrating film narratives, musical interpretation, and affective commentary. Through her calm and reflective narration, Shin functioned as a cultural mediator who translated cinematic scenes and emotions into a shared auditory experience. The program introduced a wide range of Korean and international films, thereby expanding public understanding of film culture and demonstrating the educational and emotional potential of radio as a medium. Accumulated over many years, the broadcast records of Shin Jihye’s Film Music constitute a valuable archive for studying Korean radio history, film reception, and the role of sound media in shaping collective memory. The program stands as a representative example of how radio can operate as a space where narrative, music, and emotion converge.
