ABSTRACT

Today we are facing social problems of the elderly who are increaing in numbers and prolonging life expectency. Economic instability due to retire from workplace and the role change in the family and the society can cause a variety of problems and stress, which will have a negative impact on the quality of the elderly. So we examined the culture of the elderly and stress of those in Korea trying to set up a total stress management strategy , which is described through three points of view. To set up a total strategy to address the stress of the elderly as a social problem, we described them individually socioculturally and politically. Individual point of view, we did systematic studies on the stress perception and management according to individual's physical and mental characteristics. Sociocultural point of view, we mentioned a social need to respect the elderly and strengthen supporting system for them. Political point of view, we concluded that we need total welfare system for economically independent life of the elderly. We live in the timing of the elderly and no one can escape. That’s why we have to develop total solution and system to relieve the stress of the elderly
