ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present study is to explore crisis causer, crisis type, and crisis response strategy in the local government in Korea. To accomplish this purpose, 3,708 news articles on Suwon, Sungnam, Goyang, and Yongin City on three major broadcasting companies such as KBS, MBC, and SBS and five major national newspapers such as Chosun daily, Donga daily, Joongang daily, Kyunghyan daily and Hankyoreh daily were collected and 507 news articles were analyzed. Crisis causer was classified into internal or external, and organization or person. Crisis Content was classified into person factor, social environment factor, natural environment and accident factor. As a result, most of crisis causer is internal factor, and the local government was found in approximately 90% 0f the cases. Social environment was the greatest factor in crisis content. It was found three major response types ‘attack the accuser, excuse, corrective action’. In conclusion, crisis in the local government occurred from internal factor rather than external factor, and crisis response strategy was not various.
