ABSTRACT

In this study, the hydraulic model experiment and numerical analysis were conducted to evaluate the stability of vegetation mound behind a stone mattress and hydraulic characteristics of the revetment. To produce critical scenario which adds serious instability on Vegetation Mount behind a stone mattress in our hydraulic model experimental tests, a strong supercritical flow having a Froude number of 2 was exposed to the vegetation mound. During the tests, the depth and velocity distribution of flowing water nearby vegetation mound were measured. The water flow velocity near the vegetation mound behind a stone mattress decreased approximately by 50% compared to the central section. Despite of the unfavorable condition, the vegetation mound was still safe. In addition, additional numerical analysis was performed producing a condition of overflows over the Stone mattress. From the analysis resutls, it was found that the determination of stone mattress’s height based on the flood levels is important in order to protect the vegetation mound.
