AB - Since the 9/11 terror attacks in the U.S., Western countries, led by the U.S., have waged wars against Afghanistan and Iraq and Korea also dispatched forces twice. As a result, the number of victims of international terrorism has increased among Koreans and various countermeasures have been discussed. In this situation, the Korean Association for Terrorism Studies had its inaugural general meeting on February 1, 2008, and has held 12 academic seminars until now, beginning with the 1st one on July 15, 2008. This study analyzed research trends by the semantic network analysis method using theses presented in the seminars of the Korean Association for Terrorism Studies from 2008 to 2013, and the results were as follows. First, the keyword centrality value was high for keywords “terror,” “counter‐terror,” and “countermeasure.” With regard to difference among the years, newly introduced high‐centrality keywords were “hostage” in 2008, “cyber,” “Somalia,” and “sea” in 2009, “North Korea” in 2010, “homegrown terrorism” in 2011, “investigation” in 2012, and “international” in 2013. Second, highly frequent keywords were “hostage” and “self‐administration police” in 2008, “North Korea” in 2010, and “multicultural” in 2011. In addition, “investigation” was frequent in 2012, and “law” in 2013. In particular, keywords such as “counter‐terrorism” and “terrorism” were highly frequent in 2011 and thereafter.
