ABSTRACT

Recent studies chose the downstream of Oship stream as research topics. It has been straightened due to the linearization of the Oship Stream Channel Diversion Project in 1962, and urban areas are now footed on it. There have been many changes in the area such as an increase of the population and the number of buildings. However, the target area has been, and is still, in trouble during the periods of major typhoons (e.g. Rusa in 2002 and Maemi in 2003) and localized torrential downpours. This study obtained maps from NGII, compared the old maps of the area through GIS, and determined the river widths in 1957. Furthermore, the study used the HEC-RAS model to compare the frequency of floods at the downstream of Oship stream in 1992 and 2012 and to analyze velocity, water level, and characteristics of water in typhoon Rusa. The result was analyzed to better maintain the shape of Oship streams before the channel diversions to increase a lag-time so as to reduce the average velocity.
