ABSTRACT

Artificial waves inside the lake generated due to the opening and closing of the tidal power plant cause wave setup and inundation of salty water by wave setup can harm crops in nearby farmland. This study was carried out to investigate and analyze wave setup, the main cause of this salt damage. The water level fluctuation monitoring was performed using a pressure gauge. The atmospheric correction was performed to ensure the reliability of the pressure-type water level gauge and the level of the measurement station was standardized as a reference point of the tidal power plant. The correlation analysis between the tidal power plant and the Jangjeon barrage was based on water level before generation, water level fluctuation at the beginning and end of generation and the difference between the peak water levels inside the lake and in the Jangjeon barrage. As a result of the analysis, it was found that wave setup, which is the rise of the water level in the Jangjeon barrage, has the strongest correlation with water level reduction at the front of the generator which occurs simultaneously with the stop of the generator.
