ABSTRACT

Pursuit of a realistic approach to weaving a social fabric that accurately informs the public of recent the clarification of the past shed s new light on the importance of education. This study addresses a political and social context and process from which a perspective on education on the clarification of the past has been structuralized and institutionalized based on recognition by the principal parties and creation of related schemes. This study also delves into the implications of education incorporated into creation and operation of commemorative spaces about important historical events as well as major discourses and ceremonial emblems. The importance of education on the May 18 Democratic Uprising was recognized after substantial headway was made in determining the facts of the incident. This indicates a great degree of institutionalization of previously non-institutionalized education on the May 18 Democratic Uprising. Major parties overseeing such education are the May 18Memorial Foundations and universities, which have made progress in fulfilling their respective objectives. Commemorative spaces inseparable from education were originally designed and created amid inadequate understanding of the May 18 Democratic Uprising. This prompted redefinition of the concepts and functions of these spaces, which in turn led to construction of new facilities and renovation of old ones. From the standpoint of education,a review of major discussions and memorial rites concerning National Cemetery for the May 18 Democratic Uprising shows that institutionalization and nationalization are now substantially complete.
