ABSTRACT

National Museum of Korean Contemporary History was opened in December 2012. The construction of this museum was national project well be exposed historical view and policies of the 17th government of Korea. The mission of this museum was to implement ‘history of success’, ‘history of progress’ and ‘history of miracles’ announced by the president on independence day in 2008. The subject of this study was exhibition 3-4 hall, which has shown to be well reflected historical perspective of National Museum of Korean Contemporary History. This study deals with some backgrounds and contexts of constructing and composition of National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, what is the point of the space direction and how did carry through the representation logic of space. Exhibition hall 3 which was assigned to the large area and committed the most cost included Republic of korea 3-5, in fact can be said Park Chung-hee government exhibition hall. Exhibition hall 4 targeting Republic of Korea 6didn’t show the characteristics of each government, rather emphasized to show the preferred image of Korea in the world in recent years. Images of each period seemed to be expressed by linking illumination and theme in exhibition space, exhibition hall 3 adjusted by strength of the darkness, and exhibition hall 4 was represented by the brightness. In the exhibition space, props, use of display techniques and placement are important, the focus is aligned the exhibition hall 3, the exhibition hall 4is filled with high-tech electronic products. Meanwhile, artful spatial arrangement of the president office provides a hint about location of this museum. In the representation logic of exhibition composition, exhibition hall 3 reveals the growth and development period, exhibition hall 4 shows Korea’s economic level is developed countries. Given these characteristics, exhibition hall 3-4 have elements of exhibit rooms about life and society, but also have more dominant elements of public information and industrialization.
