AB - This paper aims to clarify the discrepancy in “well-being” discourse between the Park Geun-hye government and the civil society in Korea. To this end, we will look at Korea's happiness indices, the core themes of happiness research which are the basis of those indices evaluation, and the concept of subjective well-being (SWB), and then switch to philosophical discussion to deepen understanding of happiness and the original structure of human-being.
During this process the following fact will be confirmed that true well-being is only possible when the inner sense judges pleasure by the material abundance, the proper environment, the health, etc. and in addition to that, when senses of beauty, play, and right/wrong are satisfied.
Resultingly it can be seen that the civil society is much more appealing to the feeling of right and wrong, whereas the government empathizes the feeling of pleasure and pain.
