ABSTRACT

This research is on the study of relation between the value system and politicalㆍsocial participation of the college students in Korea. This research finds that Inglehart and Dalton’s theory which post-materialism have been increased in post-industrialization society and young generations takes lead the trend proved to be true in Korea. Second, this paper found that those with more post-materialistic values are more likely to engage themselves in civic action(difficult participation) than those with more materialistic values. In other words, those with materialistic values more active in voting(easy participation) than those with post-materialistic values. At the group level, one can expect that the two groups show meaningful difference in terms of political participation especially in candle demonstration. Third, those with materialistic values are active in social participation including NGOs than those with post-materialistic values. But it’s effect are as big as political participation, and the difference of participation in political party and labour union between two groups are insignificant.
