ABSTRACT

This article examines the flow of human equality and status elimination in the late Joseon Dynasty. And This article traces the process of women's emancipation to see if the ideological power of modernization is inherent in Joseon society. Especially, in 1860, he traced the modernity connected with the flow of status liberation through the theory of woman’s emancipation created by Suwoon Choi-jeewoo. The flow of women's emancipation in the late Joseon era is characterized by the growth of the people combined with socio-economic change and the enlightened monarch who protected the people, and the proliferating neighborhoods of Confucians who renewed the Confucius philosophy. Finally, Donghak appeared human equality, the elimination of the status, the idea of the liberation of women. The people of the late Joseon Dynasty caused revolt against the inequality caused by their status. In this flow, Donghak practiced the philosophy that every human being is equal. Donghak also spread to the people that the world of women will come. The appearance of a free and equitable people out of status is a criterion that separates the pre-modern period from the modern period. Gender equality and women's emancipation come into view only after the era of status liberation has opened. At that point, Donghak symbolized modernity in that it asserted the status liberation through human equality and the liberation of women connected with the status liberation.
